直刀最早出現於漢，而這刀與早期的直刀比較，這刀的刃較窄；刀尖呈圓狀但鋒利，刀身修長，遠看像劍。

這刀的鋼質和鍛工都很好，柄包鯊魚皮，手握感覺不錯，揮舞暢順。刀鞘木質配銅件，應是原製。

This is a straight dao of Ming or Qing Dyansty. It has a single blade. It looks quite like a jian and it has a round but sharp tip. The quality of this dao is good. Forge patterns can be observed on the blade. This dao has quite a long histry as traces of combat can still be seen.

The handle is covered with shark skin. The pommel is a man's head made of copper. This figure looks so strange that one can say it is a devil's head. The scabbard is made of wood with copper fittings. It fits the blade closely.

這青銅劍保存很好，劍刃仍鋒利，劍格紋飾精美，且鑲嵌了綠松石。劍有一對，一為楚劍，一為越劍。這乃越劍。兩劍出於湖北水坑，出土時劍柄有纏繩，且有劍套和劍盒。劍身有錯金銘，上有《子漁孫王越劍》等字樣。

子漁乃楚國王公子，職司馬，楚軍統領，性忠勇，吳楚交戰中陣亡(AD537)。

This bronze jian is found in Hu Bei Province and is in very good condition. The blade is still sharp and the guard still has turquoises inlaid in it. This jian is found with its scabbard and jian box. There is gold inlaid "ming" characters on the jian stating the name of its owner.
